How to Choose the Right Size for Handmade Crochet Baby Clothes
Use garment measurements, growth allowance and fiber information to choose crochet baby clothing with more confidence.
Why the age label is only a starting point
Labels such as newborn, 0–3 months or 3–6 months are helpful, but babies of the same age can have very different proportions. Handmade crochet garments may also use a stitch pattern and yarn with a different amount of stretch from factory-made clothing. The most reliable approach is to compare actual garment measurements with clothing that currently fits the baby.
Take the measurements that matter
For a cardigan, measure across the chest of a well-fitting garment while it lies flat, then double that number if the shop requests a full chest circumference. Measure the back length from the highest shoulder point to the hem and the sleeve from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
For a bonnet, measure around the widest part of the head and, when requested, from the center top of the head toward the ear. For booties, measure the foot from heel to the longest toe while the baby is relaxed. Do not add a large amount to the foot length unless the maker recommends it.

Allow room for growth without oversizing
A little ease helps a garment remain comfortable, but excessive extra room can distort the intended shape. Cardigans are usually more forgiving than fitted rompers because they can be layered and worn open. Bonnet ties and booties require a closer fit and should never be so loose that they slip into an unsafe position.
If the baby is between two sizes and the item is intended for a future event, choose based on the baby's expected measurements at that date rather than current age alone. Share the event date with the maker when timing is important.
Check yarn and stretch information
Natural fibers, cotton blends and acrylic yarns behave differently after wear and washing. Ask what fiber is used, whether the sample measurements were taken relaxed or stretched, and whether the finished garment has already been blocked. Never assume a handmade item will stretch by a full size.

Plan for production and delivery
Because handmade clothing is prepared to order, sizing should be confirmed before production begins. MinoriBaby's standard production time is 5–10 business days, with worldwide shipping generally taking 15–20 business days. For photo sessions, baby showers and Christmas gifts, order far enough ahead to allow for both delivery and one final fit check.
Your pre-order size checklist
Measure a garment that fits now, record the baby's current height or length when available, compare those figures with the listing chart and consider when the item will be worn. If two measurements point to different sizes, contact the maker before ordering rather than choosing from age alone.
